The name Chevrolet comes from the founder of the company—Louis Chevrolet. After immigrating from Switzerland to the United States at the beginning of the 20th century, this racecar driver and entrepreneur got the idea to form his own car company. He eventually founded his company on November 3, 1911, which has remained his legacy to the world ever since.
However, Chevrolet eventually got into a quarrel with one of his original investors, selling his rights to the company in 1915. After that, he became a full-time racecar driver, finishing the Indy 500 four times during his time behind the wheel.
