What is a Mazda disposition fee?
I’ve been reading about the end-of-lease process because I’m currently leasing a Mazda 3. I actually decided that I want to buy the car, so do I still have to pay the disposition fee? I’m not exactly sure about this charge—what is the disposition fee?

It is a good idea to read up on the return process, but in your case, you’re not returning the car!
Mazda
typically charges a $350 disposition fee, which covers the cost of cleaning a returned vehicle and getting it all set to sell as a used car. As long as you make your purchase (or lease another Mazda) within 30 days of the end of your lease, Mazda will waive the disposition fee. Pretty nice, right?
If you change your mind and decide it’s not the right time to make a big purchase, simply return the Mazda. Be prepared to pay the disposition fee along with these end-of-lease fees:
- Excess wear and use charges following a vehicle inspection
- Excess mileage charge if you went over the agreed-upon mileage in your contract
- Additional charges, like unpaid payments, late charges, or unpaid traffic tickets
One more step, whether you return the car or buy it—update your
car insurance
information so that it reflects the car you’re currently driving. Your insurance premium typically goes down when you own your car. Plus, you can change what type of insurance
you have. Most lenders require you to have comprehensive coverage
