Should I add a driver with a DUI to my policy?

What can happen if I add a driver to my policy that had a recent DUI? My grandma, GamGam, never left the 70's behind and got arrested for a DUI a month ago. Since then, her car insurance company canceled her policy and she can't find an affordable plan. So she wants me to add her and her car to my policy.

It sounds like GamGam needs to slow it down a bit! Adding anyone to your
car insurance
policy can have powerful financial implications—especially a driver with a recent DUI.
If GamGam’s policy was canceled because of the DUI, is it possible that yours may be as well if you add her. See if you can get a full copy of her
driving history
to know a little more about what you are getting into first. GamGam can request a copy from the DMV.
Adding her to your policy would increase the rates for any car on the policy. It would also add her activity to your overall policy count. If she gets into an accident that causes damage over your liability limits, you would both be named in an ensuing lawsuit.
It’s better to help her find her own policy instead of adding her to yours. Have her get some quotes from
The General
or another insurer that works with high-risk drivers.

would work great for her. Jerry can help drivers compare dozens of competitive quotes for their desired coverage level.
