Is a Ford Escape an SUV?
I’m in the market for a smaller SUV, but I’m never quite sure if I’m looking at a crossover or an actual SUV. I like the style of the Escape, but I’m not sure which category it falls under. Is the Ford Escape an SUV or something else?

The categories are confusing at times, especially when it comes to the Ford Escape! The Ford Escape is actually a compact crossover, as it’s built on the Ford CD platform typically used for building cars. However, Ford bills the Escape as a crossover SUV, which may confuse some buyers.
The main difference between an SUV and a crossover is that an SUV is built on a truck platform while a crossover is built on a car platform. So in this regard, the Escape is a crossover, but it still hauls five passengers, has up to 65.4 cubic feet of cargo space, and can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
