The 2022 Ford Edge
This four-door, roomy SUV comes in five different trim levels. Pricing starts at $36,639. Although it boasts many premium features, the cabin lacks certain luxurious materials that you see in other refined models in its class.

Acceleration is nothing to write home about, but the ride is comfortable over rough surfaces. Buyers who opt for the top-of-the-line ST will pay an additional $10,000 for 335 hp. It’s equipped with a twin-turbo 2.7-liter V6 engine.
The Ford Edge has a fuel economy rating of 29 mpg on the highway. Its safety ratings are also impressive as most advanced driver assist technologies come standard. It has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs.
The 2022 Ford Escape
The dimensions of the Ford Escape are smaller, so this vehicle is classified as a compact SUV. It also comes standard with all the advanced driver assist features you’d expect, making it a top safety pick.
Pricing starts significantly lower than the Edge at $28,255. Aside from three new shades of blue paint, this vehicle is the same as the 2021 Ford Escape.
An eight-speed transmission can be paired to a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder or a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. They make 181 hp and 250 hp, respectively. The latter can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds, which is two seconds quicker than the base powertrain.
Depending on the drivetrain, fuel economy has a combined rating between 28 and 30 mpg. It can tow up to 2,000 lbs.
Cabin materials leave something to be desired but there are many optional upgrades to improve the tasteful styling. The 4.2-inch radio display can grow to an 8.0-inch touchscreen. Overall, the versatility of this vehicle is impressive.
The 2022 Ford Escape Hybrid
Unlike the Edge, the 2022 Ford Escape also has plug-in hybrid and hybrid variants. These models will manage 44 mpg and 36 MPGe, and pricing starts at $31,415.
The plug-in hybrid has an 11.2 kWh battery pack with an estimated range of 37 miles. Two electric motors are paired to a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine for a total output of 221 hp. This combination performed very well on the road test.
