were made during World War II. The Jeeps were originally named “Willys MA” (Model A) and then “Willys MB” (Model B).Here is the story behind the Willys Jeep:
- The American Bantam Car Company made the first Jeep during WWII. They first created a test model for the U.S. military in just 75 days. The vehicle was named “Blitz Buggy”.
- Willys-Overland Motors and Ford Motor Company were encouraged to build test models, as well, because both companies had greater production capability than ABCC. The vehicles Willys and Ford produced were named Willys Quad and Ford Pygmy, respectively.
- The U.S. military preferred Willys Jeeps over other models because of their more powerful engines.
The rest, as they say, is history. The Jeep went on to become the popular vehicle you see on the street today!
