Can I drive in Qatar with an international driving license?

My university has a campus in Qatar that I’m planning to attend for a year. I have my International Driving Permit (IDP) from a previous trip abroad, so will that be enough for me to drive while I’m in Qatar?

It’s so exciting that your university is able to offer you the option of international study—Qatar is a beautiful country with a rich history. It’s a huge plus that you already hold your IDP because you can drive in Qatar with an international driving license.
Most countries
require a driver’s license
, but Qatar is different in that it requires international drivers to carry an IDP in addition to their home country’s driver’s license. To get an IDP in the US, you will need:
  • An application in compliance with the
    FIA/AIT
  • To be 18 or older
  • To apply within the US before traveling internationally
  • To hold a permanent license (no temporary licenses allowed)
  • Payment of all fees (usually $20)
  • Two photographs that follow the
same standards as a US passport
Studying abroad can be expensive, and you’ll definitely want to save money when you return home to the US,
especially as a college student
. When that day comes, be sure to download the
