How long does an accident stay on my driving record in California?

I was just in an accident about a year ago just outside of my hometown of Oakland. My car insurance rates went up as a result, but I’ve kept a spotless record ever since. I want to get better rates, so I’m waiting for the accident to fall off my record. How long will it take for an accident to fall off my driving record in California?
