Does Progressive renters insurance cover food spoilage?
We lost electricity for two days after a line of thunderstorms passed through our neighborhood. Unfortunately, my daughter had just stocked up on meat and chicken that was on sale. Will my Progressive renters insurance cover the cost of all the food that’s now spoiled?

Sorry to hear about that ill-timed shopping trip! However, you should be in luck. A standard renters insurance policy—whether offered by
Progressive
or another company—will cover food spoilage as the result of a lightning storm. Your insurer will expect you to meet your deductible (and may even ask to see your receipts). In any case, take photographs of the food that has spoiled and offer to share them with your Progressive agent.
A final point. If you’d lost electricity due to a problem on your utility’s end, your
renters policy
