Can I cancel my car insurance if my vehicle is getting scrapped in the next month?
My car is totaled and I'm planning on scrapping it. It's going to be another four to five months before I get a new car. I'd like to save money before then and want to know if I can cancel my policy.

“Since you will no longer own or drive your vehicle, you can technically cancel your insurance. However, many
car insurance
companies recommend that you maintain the minimum amount of coverage until you find another vehicle. If you cancel your insurance and don’t get another vehicle for several months, you will have a lapse in coverage. A lapse can raise your rate on a new policy.
One alternative option to consider is
non-owner car insurance
. With this type of policy, you would still have insurance coverage but it wouldn’t be tied to a specific vehicle. This would prevent any lapses in coverage. You should reach out to your current carrier. They will be able to provide you with the cost of non-owner insurance and any other options that may be available to you.
