How to change the radio on a 2011 Toyota Camry

You don’t need to be an automotive expert to change out the radio on a 2011 Toyota Camry, but you will need the help of a few tools. Before you get to work, ensure you have a screwdriver, a 10 mm socket, a socket wrench, and a pry tool.

Ready to replace your radio? Follow the steps below!

1. Remove the shifter trim and handle

In order to access the radio, you’ll need to remove the center console trim. Using a pry tool, wedge the tool in between the shifter handle and the chrome piece to separate them. Unscrew the shifter handle and remove both pieces of trim. Next, wedge the tool underneath the shifter console to pop it off, and remove the shifter console trim.

2. Remove the air vents and bottom tray

Using your screwdriver, loosen the two mounting screws on the bottom tray and then pull out the tray. Next, disconnect the two accessory outlets and slide off the air vents.

3. Remove radio bracket bolts

Now it’s time to remove the radio bracket bolts. Using your socket, remove the four 10mm bolts that are holding the radio bracket in place.

Once the bolts have been removed, pull the radio out and disconnect the wire plugs.

4. Remove the radio

The large head unit in the Toyota Camry is held in place with three bolts on its left and right side. Using a screwdriver, remove the bolts. You will also need to remove the climate control unit from the radio assembly. To do so, remove the mounting screws and, once the bracket is off, slide off the climate control unit.

5. Replace the system

Now that your radio has been removed, you can replace the system. Start by mounting the new system to the bracket. Next, connect the climate control unit and radio plugs.

Mount the bracket back to the car, reinstall the air vents and bottom tray, and reinstall the trim panels.
