How do I view my Illinois driving record?

I recently got a speeding ticket driving through the suburbs of Chicago. I was unfamiliar with the area and didn’t know the posted speed limit - the officer gave me a ticket anyway. Just to keep tabs on things, where can I view my Illinois driving record?

Maybe the police officer was just having a bad day. To check out your driving record, you’ll need to use the following state-sponsored resources.
If you live in Illinois, you will need to visit your local
Driver Services Facility
. Come prepared with your
Abstract Request Form
and a credit/debit card to pay for the $12 processing fee.
There is no online access to your driving record, so you will have to do this in person or by mail. Do not trust any third-party online services.
If you live outside of Illinois and were just passing through Chicago, though, you don’t have an Illinois driving record—any tickets and violations will be recorded on your driving record in your home state.
Is your
car insurance
provider penalizing you for your traffic violation? You can trust
