GearJunkie
offers fresh insights into Ford’s latest dirt devil, and the 2023 Ford Maverick
Tremor doesn’t disappoint. Compared to the regular Ford Maverick, the Tremor has an upgraded suspension and AWD drive system, most notably boosted by the addition of a dual-clutch for added responsiveness while out on the trails. The AWD system allows the 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor’s onboard computer to send nearly all torque to either of its rear wheels. This means that if the truck is sitting unevenly when stuck, the wheel with traction can get the most power. The system also has a differential lock, too, making sure both back tires are turning as the Maverick zips over and around tough obstacles.
Trail Control—the 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor’s most notable feature
Trail Control is a definitive upgrade over the run-of-the-mill Maverick FX4’s capabilities. Similar to Jeep’s traction control, Trail Control modulates the gas and brakes to control speed through rough terrain.
The 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor also has upgraded steel skid plates, and a new front fascia. And of course, no off-road package would be complete without a sweet set of rims—17-inch wheels with gray finish and Tremor orange accents decorate the car’s all-terrain tires.
Are there any downsides to the 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor?
Most notably, this package doesn’t offer a hybrid powertrain, because the Hybrid Maverick is only front-wheel-drive—an off-road no-no. The 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor package also has reduced payload and towing capacity compared to even the typical FX4.
The Maverick’s increased ground clearance meant its pulling capabilities were sacrificed. As a result, the 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor has a payload of only 1,200 lbs, 300 lbs less than it normally has. Pulling capacity is capped at 2,000 lbs as well.
The other possible downside to the 2023 Ford Maverick Tremor is that, like the 2022 Maverick, it’s likely to sell out quickly. Although Ford has let buyers put their names and deposits down for a 2023 model year version of the truck, it won’t be available until September 2022.
Starting price for the Maverick has been around $21,000, and with the Tremor package added on, plus an optional $1,495 appearance package that adds orange and gray Tremor accents, expect to pay somewhere between $25,000-$26,000. And that’s hoping Ford can stop dealership markups on their trucks, as we saw with the Ford F-150 Lightning
