background
You can typically cancel your
Infinity auto insurance
policy online or over the phone. This process usually requires your Infinity policy number and your replacement insurance information.
Part of the Kemper family of companies, Infinity is the 13th-largest auto insurance company in the country. It has an A- rating from AM Best for excellent financial strength. Though primarily known for covering
high-risk drivers
with tricky driving records, Infinity also offers other coverages like life insurance, commercial auto, and
homeowners insurance
But what if you have an Infinity policy and no longer need or want it? Luckily, canceling your Infinity
car insurance
is a fairly easy and straightforward process. Let’s walk through some FAQs and give you some answers.

How do you cancel your Infinity car insurance policy?

Before you cancel your Infinity car insurance, make sure you have a new policy lined up that fulfills at least your state's minimum
bodily injury
and
property damage liability
insurance requirements. Once you have secured replacement insurance coverage, you can do one of the following:
  • Call 1-800-INFINITY and speak with an agent to cancel your policy.
  • Submit a cancellation request through your
    online portal
    .
Typically, you will need to provide the following information to cancel your Infinity policy effectively:
  • Contact information
  • Current Infinity policy number
  • Date you intend to end your coverage (usually your renewal date)
  • Info to confirm ongoing coverage (in some cases)

Can you cancel an Infinity policy without calling?

In most cases, yes. You can use
Infinity’s online portal
to cancel or make changes to your policy.
Though Infinity also features a mobile app, called
Infinity DriverClub
, it is not equipped to directly handle cancellations or policy changes. You can, however, use the app to live chat with insurance agents who can assist you with cancellation questions.
Policyholders can also use the Infinity app to view ID cards, submit insurance claims, make payments, or summon roadside assistance.

Does Infinity charge a cancellation fee?

Infinity’s website doesn’t state that the company charges a cancellation fee. However, several customer reviews mention that cancellation fees do apply. The costs vary depending on your individual plan, but you can always call or message your Infinity agent to get some clarification.

Does Infinity refund you if you cancel your auto insurance policy?

Depending on your policy renewal date, Infinity may refund you the unused portion of your insurance payment and mail it to you as a check.

Does Infinity have a grace period for nonpayment?

Infinity does not specify a grace period for nonpayment on their website. However, it’s generally understood that you will have 15 days to pay your Infinity bill once your due date has passed. If you do not make a payment by the 16th day beyond your original due date, your policy will be canceled.
Since this isn’t clearly stated on Infinity’s website, though, be sure to reach out to your agent as soon as you realize you’ve missed a payment (or that you can’t make one) to work out a timeline.
Note: It is a legal requirement for insurance providers to give notice before canceling coverage, so you will be alerted via mail or email prior to your policy’s cancellation.

Should you cancel your Infinity insurance?

As a non-standard provider, Infinity insurance covers drivers who may find difficulty securing coverage from more major companies like
Allstate
or
Progressive
. This is especially important if you’re someone who has a major offense like a
DUI
or reckless driving in your driving history.
That said, Infinity may not always be the best car insurance for your specific needs. Here are a few situations where canceling your Infinity insurance for alternative coverage might be a good idea:
  • The costs are getting too high—Infinity’s car insurance rates are generally more expensive because the company specializes in covering high-risk drivers. But if you’re finding it’s getting more and more difficult to make your monthly payments, it may be time to
    shop for car insurance quotes
    elsewhere.
  • You’re moving states—Originally starting in
    Birmingham, Alabama
, Infinity now services 43 states across the country. However,
    California
    ,
    Florida
    ,
    Arizona
    , and
    Texas
benefit from the most discount opportunities, including
    AAA
and multi-car discounts. If you’re moving out of one of these states, you may want (or need) to consider investigating other insurance companies
  • You’re looking for better customer service—Infinity insurance reviews don’t exactly sing its praises, which is common for a non-standard insurer. Still, Kemper as a whole received the lowest ranking for overall customer satisfaction out of 14 insurers in a
    2022 J.D. Power U.S. Auto Insurance Study
. So it may be worth your while to explore other options if you’re not impressed.
  • Your driving record has improved—violations and points are typically removed from your record after three to 10 years, depending on your state. If your record has become cleaner because of this, you’ll likely find cheaper rates from a standard car insurance company.
From renters and homeowners policies to auto and commercial auto policies, Infinity has several types of insurance coverage available. Auto insurance options are plentiful as well, whether you’re seeking basic casualty insurance or optional insurance like
uninsured motorist
or
PIP coverage
That said, Infinity’s higher costs and poor customer service ratings may not be worth a renewal, especially if you aren’t a high-risk driver. Just make sure you’ve got a new policy that meets your state requirements before you cancel with Infinity—no one wants to deal with the
insurance hikes from lapsed coverage
