GMC’s Denali
trim has always brought a level of luxury to the car brand
’s SUVs and pickup trucks that’s helped set them apart from rival brands. But as the luxury pickup segment continues to grow, it’s forcing the General Motors-owned automaker to get creative with the types of features it offers in the Sierra.
Enter the 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate. The $85,000 full-size pickup comes with every bell and whistle you can think of. But do the added features justify its sticker price? Jerry
the car ownership super app
took a closer look to find out. 2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate: the pros
When you buy the top trim of any vehicle, you want the works. Some automakers still force drivers to pay more for add-ons, but with the Ultimate, GMC includes everything available in the Sierra as a standard feature, plus a few distinctive elements only available in the top trim.
While things like SuperCruise (GM’s high-tech driver-assist system), animated headlights, and V8 engines are expensive upgrades in other Sierras, they all come standard in the Ultimate. GMC’s new “MultiPro” tailgate, which features bluetooth speakers, is also included.
On top of these and other features, the Ultimate also comes with unique aesthetic touches that give the luxury pickup truck an extra dose of class. Black 22-inch wheels, a black-polished “Vader-chrome” grille, full-grain leather seats, and relief-map interior etchings let others know you went all-in on your GMC Sierra.

Cons to upgrading to the GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate
There’s plenty to be impressed by when touring the GMC Sierra
Denali Ultimate. But a closer look reveals a few misses for the luxury pickup truck as well. In his review of the truck, YouTube’s Doug Demuro
points out that almost every nob or switch you touch in the cabin is made of cheap plastic, leaving certain elements of the driving experience feeling unremarkable. Other missed opportunities for luxury include the lack of a panoramic sunroof, a badge-less, boring (if spacious) backseat, and limited rearseat climate control.
Under normal circumstances, you could forgive a pickup truck for not carrying these features, but with the Ultimate’s price at $85,000, their absence might be enough for you to think twice.
How much does trim choice affect car insurance for the 2022 GMC Sierra?
If the starting price of the GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate hasn’t scared you off, there’s one expense you should consider before making your final decision—the cost of car insurance.
While the average cost to cover a lower trim like the Sierra SLE sits under $2,000 a year, average annual premiums for a Denali Ultimate can cost more than $1,000 extra. That said, you can find cheap car insurance
