give a pretty good indication as to the direction the publication leans.
Two of the three best-scoring models are built by BMW. The other car is the most recent version of the Chevrolet Corvette.
This shouldn’t surprise anyone. Luxury cars are bound to perform better than regular vehicles in tests like these—that’s why they cost so much more. Nevertheless,
(CR), 2022’s king of the road is the BMW 7 Series sedan. The car scored a near-perfect 99 out of 100 points, with the reviewer claiming it outperformed its top rival, the Mercedes S-Class, for the first time in years.
CR also loved the BMW X5 which scored an almost-equal 98 points on its road test—not bad for a vehicle with a starting price over $40,000 lower than the 7 Series. Adjudicators were impressed by its speed, handling, materials, and best-in-class gas mileage.
The Chevy Corvette also fared well in its road test, scoring 97 points. The reviewer says the car “deserves to be driven on a track” so drivers can feel its full power and capability. But CR stopped short of a recommendation because of the car’s lackluster history of reliability.

managed to score well on Consumer Reports’ road test. Besides the X5 and 7 Series, BMW’s X7 and 5 Series both tallied 94 points each. The new Porsche 718 Boxter racked up 95 points. And the Audi A8 scored 96.
But not every model at the top of the class was from the luxury market. The Kia Telluride, a midsize SUV, scored the same amount of points as the Corvette. The Chevy Traverse was awarded 95 points.
A little lower on the list but still impressive, the Subaru Ascent and
for the vehicles with the three best road test scores is expensive—including the Kia Telluride.
The 7 Series tops this list too, with an average annual rate of around $3,000. For the X5 and the Corvette, average rates drop to around $2,200 and $2,500, respectively. The Telluride’s average sits just below that at around $1,500.
