Where is the OBD port located on a 2013 Hyundai Sonata?

I just signed up to do a car repair class through my high school, so my dad gave me an OBD scanner as a gift. The class doesn’t start until next semester, but I really want to try using the scanner on my car! Where is the OBD port located on a 2013 Hyundai Sonata?

What a kind gift—and one that will definitely come in handy for your course! The OBD port on a 2013
Hyundai Sonata
is set far back under the driver’s side dashboard, near the accelerator and brake pedals. It can be a little hard to see at first, so you might want to try crouching down outside your driver’s side door, or using a flashlight.
If this is your first time using an OBD scanner, here’s what you need to do:
  • Make sure your car is turned OFF.
  • Connect your scanner to the port.
  • Turn your car back ON again.
  • Enter some information about your vehicle—in most cases, the scanner will request either your VIN or your car’s make, model, and year.
  • Go to the MENU on your scanner.
  • Select the option labeled ACTIVE or PENDING CODES.
Most OBD scanners don’t define your car’s error codes, so you’ll have to do that part on your own! Luckily, figuring out what OBD codes mean is usually pretty straightforward—just look them up in a trouble code book or find a reliable source online. As soon as you know what your error codes mean, you can choose whether you want to tackle the problem yourself or bring your car to a repair shop.
