Where did the name Dodge come from?

Why is the company called Dodge? It’s kind of an odd name for a car brand and I can’t figure out why they would choose it.

The name
Dodge
comes from the founders of the company, John and Horace Dodge. The two brothers started the Dodge company in 1900 as a mechanic shop after gaining experience as engine manufacturers for Ford.
However, this name is a little confusing since Dodge is also a word in English meaning to avoid or move aside suddenly. It’s totally understandable if you were confused by this double meaning of the word Dodge!
