Where did the Cadillac emblem come from?

I’m a huge fan of Cadillac and have been ever since I was a kid. However, one thing still eludes me: the emblem. It’s an awesome and iconic emblem, but I’m not sure how it was created. Where does the Cadillac logo come from?

The iconic Cadillac emblem is a version of the coat of arms of Le Sieur Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac. This French military leader, trader, and businessman founded Detroit on July 24, 1701, lending a decidedly French feel to the city which gave it the nickname: the Paris of the Midwest.
Cadillac was subsequently founded in 1903, and the owners—wanting to pay homage to Cadillac—named the company after him and adopted his family’s coat of arms as the emblem that’s adorned Cadillac vehicles since their inception.
