I hope you enjoyed your vacation! Given the nature of the damage, it’s likely your home insurance will cover the water line break.
In general, home insurance policies
cover perils
related to accidental and sudden damage, including water damage. As long as you took preventative measures like turning off your water when leaving for vacation, your insurance will likely cover the water line break.
That said if it turns out a tree root or other exclusion caused the damage, your home insurance won’t cover the break.
Water damage is especially tricky when dealing with insurance, so it’s best to call your insurance company right away. Once an agent gets all the information, they can review your policy to determine whether you’re covered. If you are, you can submit a claim and your insurance will cover the repairs minus your deductible.
