Great question! Most remote key fob batteries are really very simple to replace and can be done by yourself in just a few minutes. The most involved part of the process is finding and buying the right replacement batteries—most key fobs take CR2025 or CR2031 3-Volt batteries, but it’s always best to check before buying.
Once you’ve purchased new batteries—either online or from your local automotive store—you can replace them yourself by following these instructions:
Remove the remote key fob’s backing plate (will usually require a small Phillips-head screwdriver)
Take out the dead batteries
Put the new batteries in
Replace the back cover
Check whether the key functions properly
If you cannot replace the batteries yourself, a locksmith can do it for you, although they may charge you for it.
