were actually invented way back in 1914. In 1956, power locks became more standard among luxury vehicles, and by the mid-1980s, they started being included in mass-market cars. Around the time your first car was made, in the 2000s, although power locks were common, many automakers continued to install manual locks on some models in order to make them cheaper to produce and thus more affordable for the consumer.
These days, almost all new cars come with the option of power-lock doors as well as remote and hands-free locks.
