Great question! This one has a somewhat complicated answer. Fiat, which had ownership of Maserati at the time, officially merged with
Chrysler
in 2014.Chrysler had already changed hands several times by this point. After narrowly avoiding bankruptcy in the 1970s, Chrysler was purchased by German-owned Daimler-Benz in 1998. Later, in 2007, Cerberus Capital Management bought Chrysler from the company.
Most recently, it was nearing bankruptcy again following the 2007-2008 financial crisis. After being bailed out by the United States government,
Fiat
eventually bought Chrysler shares owned by the United States Treasury, as well as additional shares. When they merged, the two became Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA).More recently, FCA merged with PSA Group in early 2021 to become Stellantis. Now, Stellantis owns Chrysler, Fiat, and
