Over the years, Jeep Wranglers have come in countless configurations and models—and keeping up can get downright confusing! The difference between the JL and JK Jeeps comes down to the overall frame and size.
When they were released in 2007, Jeep Wrangler JK models were ultra-popular due to the blend of classic Wrangler power with family-friendliness. The JK version gave the Wrangler the modern features it needed to appeal to a wider audience, but it ended its run in 2018.
Jeep Wrangler JL models gave the Wrangler a major makeover, from big changes all the way down to cosmetic adjustments. The Wrangler JLs offer more space and capability than the JK version did thanks to a few upgrades, like its steel frame, lighter-weight aluminum body, larger tires, and comfortable (and waterproof!) interior. Basically, the JL is more suited for off-roading adventures than the JK was.
