Homeowners insurance covers you for a home that is both owned and occupied by the same person. It provides coverage for the structure of the home itself, along with the policyholder’s contents and additional structures that may be on the property.
Renters insurance is for someone who does not own their home, but pays a fee to live in someone else’s property. The main coverage renters insurance provides is for personal property, since this would not be covered under the landlord’s policy if there was damage or a loss to the property.
