Does a straight pipe add horsepower?

Can you settle this debate? My buddy is telling me that a straight pipe may sound cool, but it doesn’t add any horsepower. I thought it did. Does a straight pipe add horsepower?

You win! Many car owners find they gain about ten hp after putting on a straight pipe. Of course, if you are racing on a closed track, that extra bit of hp can mean a lot!
Important note: In most places, putting on a straight pipe will mean you can no longer drive your car on the street. Because your car no longer has a catalytic converter attached to a muffler, it will not pass an emissions inspection.
Car enthusiasts love finding ways to tweak their rides to gain the maximum performance from their vehicles. However, this doesn’t mean they understand how to fine tune their
