What is the best way to cancel my State Farm policy in CT without the DMV knowing?

Is there a way to cancel my State Farm policy without the DMV finding out? I live in Connecticut and the cost of insurance here is super expensive! I just can't afford it right now—and my ID cards are good for the next five months. Can I cancel my policy now and start it up again when the date of the ID card expires?

Car insurance
can be expensive, but not nearly as expensive as driving around without insurance can be. Do not cancel your policy if you are still driving the car. To answer your question, though: There is no way to cancel your insurance policy without the state finding out.
Let’s review a few misconceptions about insurance. First, the ID card issued at the start of the policy term does not guarantee that you have insurance. It only shows that you made an initial payment to start a policy (like a promise to pay). Once you cancel the policy, that ID card is null and void.
CT is also an automatic reporting state. This means that when your
State Farm
policy is canceled—regardless of the reason—a message is automatically sent to the DMV advising that your insurance is no longer active.
Rather than canceling your policy and driving around with no insurance, you are better off shopping for a
cheaper insurance
policy or lowering your policy limits to the state minimum
liability-only coverage
until you can afford more coverage.
