How to cancel your Erie car insurance policy

Canceling your Erie auto insurance policy is straightforward, and it won’t cost you a penny, but it will require a bit of patience. You cannot cancel an Erie policy online at erieinsurance.com, but you can cancel by
  • Contacting your insurance agent directly via phone or email
  • Calling Erie’s customer service center at 1(800) 458-0811
  • Mailing a cancellation letter to Erie Insurance Group, 100 Erie Insurance Place, Erie, PA 16530
No matter which method you choose, you’ll need to provide all policyholder’s names, policy number, and the date you wish your coverage to end.
When you’re selecting your policy end date, be sure that date is after the date your new policy goes into effect. Letting
car insurance lapse
, even for a short time, can lead to higher car insurance rates.
And remember, if you’re currently financing or leasing your vehicle, you’ll need to let your lender or leaseholder know you’ve switched policies.

Can you cancel an Erie policy without calling?

Yes. You can cancel your policy by mail or email, but you cannot cancel online or using the Erie mobile app.

Does Erie charge a cancellation fee?

No. Erie, like most insurance providers, does not charge a fee to cancel your coverage.

Does Erie refund you if you cancel your auto insurance policy?

Yes. If you’ve paid ahead or you’ve already paid your policy in full, you should expect a refund for the unused portion of your premiums after your cancellation has been processed.

Does Erie have a grace period for nonpayment?

Yes. Erie offers customers a generous 30-day grace period to bring their payments back up to speed and avoid a policy lapse. In other words, you’ll have 30 days from your payment due date to make a missed payment. If you’re unable to make your missed payment before the 30-day grace period ends, Erie will cancel your policy, and mail you an official notice.

Should you cancel your Erie insurance?

That depends on you. To start, one of the most common reasons customers cancel coverage with Erie is because they’ve moved out of Erie’s relatively small coverage area. Erie only offers coverage options in these states:
While moving to an area outside your current provider’s coverage sphere is a common reason to cancel coverage, these are some other key reasons customers choose to switch car insurance companies:
  • Your insurance premiums have become to expensive
  • Your policy doesn’t offer the insurance products you want or need
  • You’re looking for better car insurance after getting married
  • You want to bundle homeowners insurance and auto insurance to save money
  • You found
    cheap car insurance
    through another provider
Most people don’t realize it, but sticking with the same insurance provider and the same policy year after year isn’t always the best plan. In fact, experts advise that you should shop for car insurance every 6 months to make sure you’ve always got the best coverage at the best price—even if that means switching car insurance companies. A simple way to get a quick insurance review is to compare
