What do I do when my insurance company wants to cancel my policy over an old roof?
When I bought my house a year ago, the home inspector said the roof had up to five years of use left. But my home insurance company just sent me a notice saying they're going to terminate my policy because my roof is too worn down and needs to be replaced. I don't understand why this is happening. What do I do now?

“That sounds very frustrating. While it is up to the insurance company to decide whether or not they are willing to renew the policy, you may have some options. They should give you the option to
repair or replace the roof
and an appropriate timeframe in which to do so. If you are not in a position to replace the roof at this time, contact your insurance company to see if they are willing to exclude the roof, and damages resulting from the failure of the roof, until you are in a position to have it repaired or replaced. It would be a good idea to have the work done as soon as possible, though.
