What are some safe assumptions while driving?
I want to become a better driver. A buddy of mine told me that I can make some assumptions about what other drivers are going to do and it will make me a safer driver. What are some safe assumptions I can make?

Oddly enough, you can’t make any safe assumptions while driving. Being a better driver is more about experience and anticipating what other drivers may do.
If you want to become a better driver, assumptions can only lead to wrong moves. Instead, focus on some certainties. Practices that will make you a better driver include:
- Following the posted speed limit.
- Look further ahead. You may hear that 10 seconds is enough, but 15 to 20 seconds is the better option.
- Slow down if you experience adverse weather conditions, an accident, or a construction zone.
- Never weave between lanes.
- Don’t tailgate.
- Avoid the temptation to engage in road rage.
- Never drive if you’re tired.
- Don’t drive if you’re buzzed or if you’ve had a few too many drinks.
