What affects the electric car range?

I’m a bit nervous about the range on my EV. I’m always worried that it will run out. I’d love to be able to maximize the distance my vehicle can travel to help calm my anxiety. What affects the electric car range?

Range anxiety isn’t uncommon for
electric car
owners. Knowing what affects your range can help you to drive in a way that prevents you from using power unnecessarily.
Factors that affect range:
  • Speed. The faster you drive, the more power you burn.
  • Wind. Higher headwinds increase the resistance that your vehicle has to drive through. Your EV will have to do more work to combat this added pressure.
  • Cold Weather. Extreme temperatures are unkind to electric cars. Their batteries require a neutral temperature to work efficiently. Therefore, excessive heat or cold will result in a loss of range.
  • Battery Degradation. Over time, your EVs battery will start to degrade. Naturally, this will affect your range.
Many of these factors can be mitigated through driving behavior, but there are always unforeseen events that we must prepare for. Luckily,
