Should I insure my car in Florida if I just moved there, even if I'm going to get rid of the vehicle in the near future?

I recently moved from New York to Florida. My father makes all the payments on my vehicle, and I'm listed as a driver on his NY insurance. I'm keeping the car until I find a job, then I'll sell it or give it back to my father. Do I need to insure the car in Florida?

“You should definitely call your insurance company to tell them of this scenario. They may give you a time frame to switch your insurance, sell the car, or give the vehicle back to your father.
If you end up keeping the car longer than expected, you should absolutely move your
car insurance
to Florida. Shop around for rates and you should be able to find something that works for your budget and coverage needs.”
