Is natural deterioration or wear and tear covered by home insurance?

"I know home insurance policies have certain perils that are covered or excluded, but what about natural deterioration or wear and tear over time?

“Typically, normal wear and tear is not covered on a home insurance policy. Home insurance policies are there to protect you if there is a loss that is unexpected.
If there are parts of your home that are getting old and need to be replaced, it is up to the homeowner to replace them. For example, if your furnace is old and fails due to age, you would be responsible for replacing it or getting it fixed.
For home insurance to cover damage, there has to be a root cause to the damage. If that root cause is a covered loss (fire, hail, theft and vandalism, etc.), then your home insurance policy will cover the damage. “
