2016 Honda CR-V engine oil capacity

So, how much engine oil does the 2016 Honda CR-V require anyhow?
The 2016 CR-V comes equipped with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that has an oil capacity of 4.4 quarts, or 4.16 liters. Be aware that your engine’s displacement and oil capacity are not the same things. Your CR-V’s engine takes up 2.4 liters of volume, while 4.4 quarts is the amount of oil required for your vehicle’s oil change.

What kind of oil does a 2016 Honda CR-V need?

Now that you’ve determined your engine type and how much oil your CR-V requires, let’s figure out what oil type you need. Don’t assume you can just use any engine oil off the shelf! Honda’s owner manual recommends using fully synthetic Honda Genuine 0W-20 Motor Oil. It’s important to go with the manufacturer’s recommendation—but what do those letters and numbers mean, exactly?
The numbers in the oil type refer to the oil’s viscosity, or its thickness, and the “W” stands for winter. The 0 before the W indicates that the oil maintains the appropriate viscosity at 0°F and below, while the number 20 means that it can withstand extreme temperatures of up to 212°F—the normal operating temperature of an engine. You must use this oil type in order to avoid wear and tear on your engine

How often to change oil on a 2016 Honda CR-V

Now that you know your 2016 CR-V’s oil capacity and type, you’re ready to
change your oil
! And since you’re using synthetic oil, you don’t have to change it out quite as often as you would conventional oil. Experts recommend changing synthetic oil out every 7,500 to 10,000 miles
Since this is a pretty wide range, you should make sure to check your oil level regularly—at least once a month. Here are a few signs that your oil may need to be changed:
  • Motor oil is dark brown or black and feels coarse or gritty
  • Strange noises coming from the engine
  • Unusual odors, like oil, smoke, or burning
  • Changes in your vehicle’s performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

Finally ready to change your oil out? You’ll need to gather all the right tools, like a socket wrench, drain pan, filter wrench, and replacement filter. And don’t forget about the main component: the 4.4 quarts offully synthetic 0W-20 engine oil.
First, you’ll want to run the engine for a bit until your vehicle reaches normal operating temperature. This should take about five minutes in normal weather. Once you reach this level, turn the engine back off, pop open the hood, and perform these steps:
  • Take the oil cap off.
  • Detach the oil drain bolt and washer beneath the engine to drain the old oil into the drain pan.
  • Remove the old oil filter and let the oil continue to drain.
  • Install the new filter.
  • Remove the oil drain plug and replace it with a new washer, then tighten it to 29 lb-ft.
  • Remove the oil cap and pour new oil into the engine.
Use a dipstick to make sure you've poured enough oil into the engine. Once you’re sure it’s right, turn your CR-V back on for a couple of minutes and look out for leaks.
Has the
oil pressure light
disappeared from your dashboard? If so, then you’ve successfully changed your oil!
