Is it worth getting BMW’s extended warranty?

My BMW X5 is about to hit the four-year mark, meaning my new vehicle warranty is going to end. I’m nervous about not having that protection, but is the extended warranty worth it?

Whether it is worth getting BMW’s extended warranty will depend on your budget and priorities. If you plan on keeping your new BMW for a while and you’d rather not pay for repairs or replacements caused by defective parts, one of the manufacturer’s extended warranty options may be a solid investment for you.
With BMW’s three extended warranty plans—Powertrain, Gold, and Platinum—you can choose from five, six, or seven years of coverage. Be sure to note that these lengths include your original four-year warranty. Each extended warranty plan includes different amounts of coverage for different systems in your Bimmer.
Now onto the big question: how much does an extended BMW warranty cost? As a luxury brand, you can expect to pay a pretty penny for your extended warranty. The exact amount will depend on your specific model and dealership. In general, though, an Extended Service Contract could cost anywhere from $1,000 to $8,000.
Whether you stick with your original warranty, upgrade to the Gold plan, or splurge on the Platinum warranty, none will cover damage caused by car accidents, weather damage, or vandalism. For that, you’re going to need a reliable
