Is Assurant a good renters insurance provider?
I’m currently in the process of shopping around for a new renters insurance policy—what a nightmare! A couple of friends of mine use Assurant, but I’d never heard of it before. Does Assurant have good renters insurance coverage?

It makes sense that you haven’t heard of Assurant. They’re a smaller, newer insurance provider.

automatically covers some things that other providers normally charge an extra fee for. But, they’re not the best in terms of discounts.Assurant renters insurance is good in terms of replacement cost coverage versus actual cash value. Let’s say that your Xbox is stolen out of your apartment. With Assurant, you can be reimbursed with enough money to buy a brand new one—they don’t consider depreciation.
Unlike other providers, Assurant also includes bedbug coverage, in some states. An Assurant renters insurance policy can help cover the cost of an exterminator, a bedbug sniffing dog, and other related expenses.
Plus, if you hate talking on the phone (who doesn’t, these days?), you don’t have to with Assurant. You can set everything up

, and even ask questions. However, Assurant does not offer as many discounts as other providers. Many renters insurance companies will offer you discounts if you install safety features like deadbolt locks and smoke alarms, but these discounts are few and far between with Assurant.
And although they’re a smaller company, Assurant receives a higher-than-average number of complaints—something to be aware of if you’re considering making them your rental insurance provider.
