Is a seatbelt ticket a moving violation in Ohio?

I got pulled over for following too closely the other day and forgot to put my seatbelt on before the cop got to my car. I got a seatbelt ticket as a result. Is that a moving violation? I’m worried I’m in big trouble.

You should always wear a seatbelt—not to get out of tickets, but because it’s the safe thing to do! The answer is no, a seatbelt ticket is not a moving violation in Ohio even though it will put two points on your
Ohio driving record
.
Seatbelt tickets are secondary offenses in Ohio, meaning you can’t get pulled over just for not wearing one. If you’re pulled over for something else, like speeding or running a red light, and you’re also not wearing a seatbelt, you could receive multiple tickets.
Depending on how many tickets you’ve received and how many points you have on your driving record, your insurance company may raise your rate if they fear that you are an unsafe driver. To help lower your
