My family was hit from behind by a vehicle on a recent trip, causing sciatic nerve damage in my wife and rupturing two of my vertebrae. How much will the other driver's insurance pay for my expenses?

“Sorry to hear about you and your wife’s injuries. First, let’s sort out what a 50/100/50 liability insurance policy means.

The first number is

bodily injury liability

per person, which is $50,000 that goes to medical expenses for each individual.

The middle number refers to the maximum amount payable ($100,000) for medical expenses per accident.

Finally, the third number refers to

property damage liability

and is the maximum amount paid for damage to the vehicle.

Unfortunately, these numbers are set in stone. An insurance company isn’t required to pay more than this. Therefore, you may want to consider hiring a personal injury attorney or legal counsel to recoup all of your medical costs, plus damages for pain and suffering.”
