Okay, dumb question—I’ve never driven an Infiniti before. I just got an Infiniti QX50 and I don’t know how to put the thing in neutral. What am I doing wrong?

Not dumb—brave! To put your Infiniti in neutral you must push or pull your shift knob until you feel resistance without touching the electronic shift button located on the knob.

To put your car into reverse, you must press the electronic shift button located on the knob near your index finger and push the lever all the way forward. You’ll feel some resistance, but you need to push past that point. When you release, your car will be in reverse.
The process is the same to put your car into drive, except this time you’ll be pulling the lever back instead of pushing it forward.
