How much is a moving violation ticket in Illinois?

How much does a moving violation ticket cost in Illinois? I’ve never gotten pulled over before and the officer didn’t tell me how much my ticket would be, so I’m a little nervous that it will be expensive.

A moving violation ticket in Illinois could be anywhere from $15 to $1,000, depending on the severity of the offense.
For a speeding ticket, the cost will depend on how fast you were driving:
  • If you were driving 1 to 20 mph above the speed limit, you’ll be charged $120.
  • If you were driving 21 to 30 mph above the speed limit, you’ll be charged $140.
  • If you were driving more than 30 mph above the speed limit, you’ll be charged $160.
  • If you were driving 35 mph or more above the posted limit, you will be charged with reckless driving and face an entirely different set of consequences, including a Class A misdemeanor charge.
Following a moving violation, you’ll also see an increase in your

rate that is proportional to the insurance company’s added risk in insuring you following your high-risk behavior.
