I’m so annoyed at myself. Last night while leaving a friend’s house, I backed into a tree and did some damage to my rear bumper. How much does it cost to fix a bumper?

It’s easy enough to damage a bumper, especially when backing up. You didn’t say the extent of the damage, so let me walk you through some average prices, from least to most expensive:
Minor dent: $100-$200 Because you likely weren’t moving too quickly, your bumper may have a small enough dent that either you or a mechanic can remove it. You should ask about paintless dent repair, which is a newer method that avoids damaging your car’s paint job.
Larger dent: $200-$600 If the dent is larger, the price will go up.
Crack or hole: $300-$450 If your bumper is cracked or has a hole, depending upon its severity, it may be repaired by putting plastic filler in the crack (and then sanding and painting).
Bumper replacement: $800-$2,000 It doesn’t sound as if you need to replace your bumper, but if you did, the price varies based upon the make/model of your vehicle.
Good luck with the repair!
