How much does a car bumper cost to replace?

I accidentally hit my friend’s car while backing out of the school parking lot, and the bumper on his car will need to be replaced. I don’t have any insurance and I’ll need to pay for the replacement myself. How much will it cost to replace the car bumper?

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear about your accident. The exact cost of bumper replacement will depend on a few different factors and can range anywhere from $500 to $5,000.
The first factor to consider is the make and model of the car needing the replacement. If it’s an expensive vehicle (a truck, SUV, or luxury vehicle), the cost to replace the bumper will be higher than if the vehicle is an older or used model.
Further, the cost of replacement will be higher for an aftermarket bumper than an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) bumper.
Finally, the extent of the damage will determine how much you have to pay. Labor costs at local body repair shops can range anywhere from $50 to $215 per hour, depending on how severe the damage is.
