In most cases, a V4 engine will have four spark plugs—one attached to each cylinder head.
However, if your V4 engine is of the twin spark variety, you may instead need eight spark plugs—two for each cylinder head. That’s because twin-spark engines employ opposing spark plugs that fire simultaneously in the cylinder head in order to ignite the engine charge.
Generally speaking, your spark plugs may need replacing every two to three years, or 20,000 to 30,000 miles—so it’s a good idea to know what’s under your car’s hood ahead of time.
