How many Floridians die every day in impaired driving collisions?
I’ve been studying up on Florida’s driving laws in order to get my learner’s permit. One of our questions (it’s a multiple-choice, thankfully!) asks about impaired driving deaths. How many Floridians die in impaired driving crashes each day—2, 3, 5, or 10?

We’re sure your hard work will pay off on your permit exam! For this particular question, the answer you’re looking for is likely three. Up until 2019, roughly *1000 Floridians died each year in an impaired driving collision, which works out to just under three per day.
It’s a bit of a trick question, though! In 2020 and 2021, the number of impaired driving deaths in Florida has fallen sharply to 750, which is closer to two drivers per day. So, although the driver’s ed manual is likely to say three drivers per day, there is encouraging data to suggest that the number might fall in the future.
Either way, here’s the key takeaway that your driver’s ed class is trying to get across: driving while impaired, either by drugs or alcohol, is never safe! These substances harm your coordination and cause you to think and react slower, which makes the roads more dangerous for everybody.
