That sounds like it would be such a thoughtful gift! Publicly available sales numbers for this nostalgic crowd favorite are few and far between, but from 1974 to 1980, over 100,000 first-generation Dodge Ramchargers
may have been produced, with over 10,000 being made per year during those initial production years. Classified as a full-size SUV, the Dodge Ramcharger was produced between 1974 and 1993 in the U.S. It was essentially a version of the Dodge D-Series trucks with a shorter wheelbase—comparable competitors could have included the Jeep Wrangler or Ford Bronco.
From 1998 to the 2001 model year, the third generation Ramcharger was made in Mexico. But this version of the Ramcharger wasn’t sold in the US for a number of reasons, including the fact that sales of two-door SUVs were going down and there were already a lot of successful mid-sized SUVs on the market.
The projected sales revenue for this large SUV was also extremely low, so it wasn’t worth the hit to Dodge’s Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) average.
Tracking down a specific model year might be a little challenging, but it’s not impossible, and you can pretty commonly find them listed for sale on used car sites. Best of luck if you decide to follow through with this!
