OBD port locations are most commonly found on the steering wheel’s right or left on the dashboard’s lower portion. Sometimes they can also be found on the driver’s side of the center console. Some OBD ports have covers to keep out debris, making them hard to spot.
On-board diagnostic (OBD) scanners plug into your vehicle’s OBD port and display error codes for problems detected by the vehicle’s computer. If the error code traces back to a problem you can fix yourself, you just save time and money. Other times, it can confirm you need to bring your vehicle to a mechanic for repair, which can help you address problems early on before they become more serious.
