How long will a DUI stay on my driving record in Michigan?

I was convicted of a DUI several years ago and I’ve been paying insurance rates in Michigan that are more than triple what my partner is paying. When will the DUI be cleared from my record so my insurance rates can return to normal?

Insurance rates often skyrocket with a DUI on your record, so I understand your frustration. In
Michigan
, an OUI (operating under the influence) conviction will stay on your record for life but the points expire in two years.
The extent of penalties depends on the number of prior convictions in the past seven years. Once you have an OUI charge on your driving record, you’re classified as a
high-risk driver
and subject to increases in your insurance premium to compensate for an increased risk of claims compared to the average driver.
The insurance company you choose will also be required to file an
SR-22
on your behalf as confirmation that you hold the state-mandated minimum insurance.
Having an OUI on your record isn’t a good thing, but the car insurance comparison super app
Jerry
can help ensure you’re always getting the best rates. Jerry searches through more than 50 top insurers to get the coverage you need at the lowest price. Once you choose a policy, Jerry handles everything so that you can get back on the road—and the average user saves more than $800 per year.
