How is a driving test marked?

What kind of score do I need to get in order to pass my driving test in Virginia? It would help me a lot with nerves if I knew what to expect. If I know how the test is scored, it’ll be easier to tell if I’m failing. How is a driving test marked?

Driving tests are marked differently in every state, but in
Virginia
, you’ll pass if you make fewer than five driving errors and zero unsafe driving maneuvers. Some examples of driving errors include:
  • Speeding by less than 5 MPH.
  • Not using your turn signals.
  • Forgetting to check your mirrors or blind spots.
  • Making a rolling stop.
  • Changing lanes incorrectly.
Some things that will cause you to automatically fail include:
  • Disobeying road signs or signals, including speeding by more than 5 MPH.
  • Running into anything, whether it’s the curb or another vehicle.
  • Forcing the examiner to intervene for any reason.
  • Refusing to yield to pedestrians or other vehicles that have the right-of-way.
