How do you jump-start a Tesla Model S?

My Tesla just died in my driveway. What’s the easiest way to jump-start a Tesla?

To jump-start a Tesla, follow these steps:
  • Open the tow eye cover which is the large circle on the front bumper driver side. Do this by pushing on the top right of the cover until it pushes inward, then pull the cover toward you. There you’ll find the tow hook.
  • Then, you’ll see a couple of wires attached to the cover (or they will just be in the hole). You’ll need to pull them out gently.
  • Take your external 12V jump-starter and connect the red positive cable to the car’s red positive cable.
  • Connect the 12V jump-starter’s black negative cable to the car’s black negative cable.
  • Turn on the jump-starters power until the Tesla’s frunk (aka front trunk) pops open.
  • Disconnect the cables—black first, then red.
  • Then, connect the wires back to the tow cover and put the cover back by inserting the wires into the opening. Make sure to align the cover into position with the bottom left corner first, and push it into place.
  • Take off the large, black plastic panel covering the 12V battery. You’ll find this above the frunk compartment. You should be able to just pull up and about 12 clips will pop out of place.
  • Next, you’ll see the black cabin intake panel on the passenger side of the car. Remove this, as well, by pulling upward on the clips.
  • Now, carefully connect the red positive cable to the red positive terminal on the 12V battery.
  • Connect the black negative cable to the black negative terminal.
  • Turn on the external power supply.
  • Wait 10 minutes.
  • At that point, you should be able to power up the car’s computer. You’ll see the touchscreen turn on.
  • At that point, disconnect the cables (black, then red).
  • Put both black panels back into place. Make sure they’re aligned before applying pressure—they break easily.
  • Finally, drive to a charger *immediately. When the main battery has a sufficient charge, it will start charging the 12V battery.
If holding a charge continues to be an issue, you should contact Tesla.
And if you feel you’re paying too much to insure your Tesla, you probably are—and
