How do you jump a Tesla?

I received a notification on my Tesla that my 12V battery needed service. I didn’t realize it was immediate and the battery died. How can I jump my Tesla?

Oh no! Having your 12V battery die is a common issue with
Teslas
. Luckily, as long as you have the proper equipment, it’s relatively easy to jump a Tesla.
First and foremost, make sure you use a 12V battery jump starter and not another Tesla or car.
Once you have an external jump starter, here’s what you need to do:
  1. Open the hood
. As it likely isn’t open, you’ll need to jump-start the hood using the cables underneath the tow hook. If you’re successful, you’ll hear the hood pop.
  2. Take off the plastic panel near the windshield. Remove this piece to access the battery.
  3. Remove the air intake vent on the passenger’s side. Remove this as it can block part of the battery.
  4. Connect the red positive cable to the positive terminal, then connect the black negative cable to the negative terminal.
  5. Turn on the external jump starter. Let it run for 10 minutes. The touchscreen should come on. Once on, charge the battery for another 10 to 15 minutes.
  6. Remove the cables in the reverse order, so remove the black negative cable first, then the red positive cable.
  7. Reattach air intake panel. Once attached, put back the plastic panel and close the hood.
From there, you’ll want to get to a charger as soon as possible. Once your Tesla charges, your 12V battery will begin to charge. After that, you’ll want to call a Tesla mobile technician or the service center to determine whether you’ll need to replace your 12V battery.
